Sonfjället National Park is Europe's first protected area (formed in 1909) and offers magnificent hiking. The national park is known for its different kinds of forests, the mountain's mighty silhouette and its rich wildlife. It is one of Sweden's most densely populated bears and there is also a large elk population and lynx.
Here are beautiful and unique formations from the ice sheet and several nice walks to hike. Start from Nyvallen (Hedeviken) or Valmån in summer. In winter, Nysätern is a suitable starting point.
Popular hiking destinations are the magical Styggtjärn, a trip up to the top of the mountain and Nyvallens Fäbod.
