Trail 21 - Romboleden

Black hiking trail

The Rombo Trail is Sweden’s longest pilgrimage route, stretching 900 km from Köping in central Sweden all the way to Trondheim in Norway. The trail dates back to the 11th century and was once used by pilgrims travelling to Nidaros Cathedral and the shrine of Saint Olav. Along the way, the route passes old mountain farms, forests, alpine landscapes and small villages.

In Lofsdalen, you hike through open mountain scenery, along historic paths and past places where pilgrims have travelled for hundreds of years. The trail passes Rombovallen, an ancient pilgrimage site dating back to medieval times, where a reconstructed pilgrims’ shelter today offers a place for rest and reflection.

The section of the Rombo Trail that runs through Lofsdalen has recently been upgraded with improved signage and trail clearing to make the area more accessible. However, we strongly recommend bringing both a map and compass, as some sections can still be difficult to navigate.

The combination of mountain views, cultural history and peaceful surroundings makes this stretch a unique experience for anyone wanting to discover the nature of Härjedalen in the footsteps of the pilgrims.

This trail is best suited for experienced mountain hikers with good navigation skills. Maps can be downloaded and used offline via naturkartan.se.
